Our Location

The beach you see is a 5 minute walk from the house. You can see the bay from the terrace. Located inside a cove known as Lagertero Bay, the waters are very calm and perfect for people of all ages to swim in. During low tide you can walk over to the Hotel Hibiscus, about 1km away.

The house is situated in a closed community called Lago Bay. Our neighbor Brett has some cool projects going on in the area like aquaculture and coconut and moringa tree farms. People come and help throughout the year via his workawayer program and it’s well received. You can see what people are saying about it here.

In addition to Brett, there’s also a family from Canada nearby, an English teacher, and retired couple from San Francisco (who also have a boutique hotel in Panama city). They’re good people and all speak English so even if your Spanish is a little rusty you won’t have any problems getting to know them!

Check out his promo video below for a better look at the surrounding community. You’d be crazy to not want to live here!

Stuff to do

If you fancy something a bit more exciting, great surfing can be found just 10 minutes away in Santa Cantalina. From there it’s easy to get in a scuba diving tours on Coiba Island. It’s been called one of the ‘most underrated’ scuba spots in the world but that’s because it’s one of Panama’s best kept secrets! There’s so much diversity and life in the ocean around the island you’ll definitely need more than one dive to see it all.

If that’s a bit too much excitement, there’s also great spots for fishing, birdwatching, kayaking, snorkling and you can even hire a local to take you out to one of the small islands nearby for a day at the beach – all to yourselves (or self but that might be kind of boring).

There are also great restaurants in town that we often frequent because the food is just excellent and the locals very friendly.

For a great run down of some of the things you can do in Santa Catalina (there’s lots more!), see this link:

Directions to Lago Bay

Time to Travel from Santiago de Veraguas: Approximately 2 hours

Upon entering Santiago make a left turn at the Shell/Delta gas station (across the street from the El Pyramidal Hotel and bus station) turning onto Avenida Central, driving towards a white cathedral. As you approach the cathedral, stay to its left then immediately turn right after you pass it. Turn left in two blocks, following the signs to Soná, located another 47 kilometers (29 miles) away.

Before entering the town of Soná, make a left turn at the Shell/Delta gasoline station. You will see signs directing you towards Santa Catalina. If you enter the town of Soná you have gone too far. After about 45 km (28 Miles), in the small village of Los Tigres you will find another sign directing you to turn left towards Santa Catalina.

You’ll pass the very small posted towns of Tigre Amarillo and Farfan. Tigre Amarillo is the town in which you’ll immediately pass when taking the left. Farfan is just 5 kilometers (ten minutes) down the road. You’ll know that you are passing Farfan when you go over two speed bumps (1 kilometer apart). After the second speed bump, the entrance to Lago Bay is 2 kilometers along the same road.

You’ll see the sign on the left after a series of three hills. Take the left on to the dirt road for 500 meters (500 yards) where you will come to the Lago Bay gate.

Now that all might seem a bit complicated so the best thing is to call us at +507 6897 8055 for an appointment and it will be our pleasure to show you the house!
